Yes, you can become a teacher without a degree in education. Heres how.
Yes, you can become a teacher without a degree in education. Hereâs how. If youâre reading this, youâve probably realized you want to be a teacher. But you didnât major in education. Maybe you didnât know during high school or early on in college that you wanted to pursue becoming a teacher and youâve recently graduated. If you find yourself wondering why you majored in sociology, computer science or biology, when the truth is, none of those are fields you actually want to pursue as a long-term career, youâre in good company. That nagging feeling that youâre not suited for what you just spent four or more years studying? You shouldnât ignore it. Or maybe youâre contemplating a career change. Just because youâre on a dedicated career path doesnât mean you have to stay on it forever, right? Perhaps youâve been feeling bored or frustrated at work lately. Or, you work in an industry with failing job opportunities. If youâre looking for a fresh challenge, itâs never too late to switch to a career in education. And hereâs the really good news - you donât have to go back to school and get another bachelorâs degree in education to make it happen. So letâs walk you through how you can still become a teacher, even if you didnât graduate with an education degree. Can I really become a teacher with just my bachelorâs degree? Itâs not in teaching! You can absolutely still train to be a teacher without a degree in education. Virtually every state in the country offers alternate routes to certification explicitly designed with you in mind. Word of caution: Thereâs lots of red tape involved with getting certified to teach. What makes it even trickier to navigate is that each state department of education has its own certification requirements. Thatâs why itâs critical that you carefully research licensure requirements in the state you want to teach in before applying to any sort of teacher preparation program, as different rules will inevitably apply. If you do want to get into education as a long-term career, though, enrolling in an alternative certification program is generally a pretty safe bet. More on that below. What kind of degree do you need to be a teacher? As mentioned above, having a non-education degree will not prevent you from becoming a teacher. For example, some private, charter and not-for-profit schools donât require applicants to have a teaching degree or hold state licensure. If you want to teach in the public school system (either as an elementary or high-school subject teacher), however, you will need a teaching license or teaching credential. Substitute teaching gigs can also be an excellent way for graduates with no teaching background to get some real classroom experience under their belt. Note: Most states set a four-year bachelorâs degree as the minimum education requirement for K-12 teachers. So, while you probably canât find work as a teacher if you have an associateâs degree, you could still qualify for jobs in education, either as a teaching assistant, preschool or substitute teacher. How to use your current degree to become a teacher. First stop: Check whether your state offers emergency teaching certificates. This is where bachelorâs degree holders can apply to teach subjects that are presently experiencing a shortage of qualified candidates. A few select states, including Texas, Missouri, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Mississippi, California and Arizona, grant temporary licenses to teachers in high-need areas like special education, as well as foreign language and STEM subjects. If youâre planning on teaching more advanced subjects in public high schools, such as math or science, and have a degree in a related field, thatâs generally enough for you to get an emergency status teaching job in one of these states. At the end, you can opt to take the state licensing exam and become a fully certified teacher. Donât panic if your state doesnât have an emergency certification pathway, however. There are plenty of alternative programs you can opt for instead. Can I get a teaching license with a bachelor's degree? OK, so we all know about the most obvious way to become a teacher: Obtaining an undergraduate degree that includes completing an accredited teacher preparation program, ultimately leading to licensure from your stateâs board of education. Hundreds of accredited colleges and university offer blended degree and educator prep programs to that end. The process of getting certified by your state usually entails passing an examination, such as a state test or Praxis exams. Thereâs usually a student teaching component required, too. Depending on the state you want to teach in, however, there are other state-approved alternative routes to certification available to you. Here are two other ways you can get certified to teach in the US (other than a tradiionial educator preparation program as part of your undergraduate degree). 1. Get your masterâs degree in education/teaching. There are two main options here: a Master of Arts in Teaching and a Master of Education. Of the course, the downsides are obvious - the cost of graduate school is high, youâll need to prepare for the GRE and commit to a couple of years of full-time study. In short, itâs not an option thatâs viable for everyone. The bonus is that youâll often have a higher starting salary. when you do finally qualify as a teacher. 2. Enter an alternative certification program. As the name implies, alternative certification programs are an alternative to traditional, degree-based teacher certification programs. Theyâre specially designed for people who decide to become a teacher in a K-12 public school settng after completing their bachelorâs degree in an unrelated field. Those who earn an alternative teaching certification usually teach in the subject area in which they majored in. Once youâve completed your alternative teacher certification program, you can then apply with the department of education in the state you want to teach in for a teaching role. There are a wide range of city, state and national alternative certification programs, offered by accredited private organizations and school districts, that let you earn your teaching credential while training in a classroom. The US government also provides financial aid to people enrolled in alternative certification programs. If youâre interested in teaching in a rural or inner-city school, you can also get hired without formal education training. Teach For America (TFA) and The New Teacher Project (TNTP) are two notable examples. Some states will also let you teach full-time, on the understanding that youâll go back to college and finish your education degree within a specific time period. Alternative certification teacher programs can be online and classroom-based. Making a decision about which format to take will be influenced by many factors, including your personal and work schedule and the options available in your area. How long does it take to get a teaching certificate with a bachelorâs degree? Alternative certification programs allow students with a bachelor's degree and career experience to earn a teaching license outside of the traditional route mentioned above. These programs will typically get you teaching in the classroom faster than a traditional education prep program. They are short, intensive programs designed to get you into the classroom as quickly as possible - some in as little as nine months, in fact. If your bachelorâs degree isnât education and youâre looking to fast track your teaching certification, there are even online teacher certification programs that let you teach while earning your teaching credential. I have a masterâs degree, how can I become a teacher? If you have an advanced degree in your chosen field, then youâre in luck. Itâs more than possible to find work as a teacher in most states without an education degree. Lots of public and private colleges and universities, for example, are keen to hire people with a masterâs degree or PhD. Final word of advice on how to get a teaching certificate if you already have a bachelorâs degree. While it can feel daunting to start over after four years spent studying one very specialized field, a career in teaching is incredibly rewarding. If you love working with young people and have a sense of accomplishment from helping students grow, then it might be worth tutoring on the side, shadowing teachers, or even working as a substitute teacher before you pursue obtaining your teaching credential, either through the traditional or alternative means mentioned above. Either way, congratulations on having taken the first step toward becoming a teacher. Good luck and happy teaching!

3 Ways in Which Practice Questions Help in College Entrance Test Preparation
3 Ways in Which Practice Questions Help in College Entrance Test Preparation 0SHARESShare Practice questions can help the student to a great extent in preparing for the competitive, college admission tests such as ACT and SAT. 1- Knowing the format: Firstly, practice question and answers such as SAT Math Questions and Answers and ACT Practice Questions and answers are a great way of knowing âhow should questions be answered?â 2- Remembering the methodology: Once the student starts practicing math and other subjects that are objective in nature, it is easier to remember the method of arriving to the solutions. For instance, what would be more memorable for you? Remembering what is Binomial theorem definition (in text)? Or Remembering what is Binomial theorem in algebraic terms: (a + b) 1 = a + b and so on ⦠Here both are interdependent that is if you can remember the theorem you will remember the definition and the other way. Remembering the application is much easier because we can practice and know it for real whereas remembering theory could be difficult at times because of the stress on theory. 3- Focusing on the test relevant content You are practicing with ACT sample questions and answers and you sometimes like to rely on the questions and answers section of the study material. This is because practice questions by its nature covers a large number of areas in any subject. For instance, a question such as application of principles of utilitarianism, gives you a better idea about what to study? Rather than reading random content about utilitarianism in the book. It is important to know the specific requirements, be it in an exam, assignment or any other evaluation content. By knowing the content in context of the requirement, students can perform better. How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel - Introvert Whisperer
Introvert Whisperer / How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel - Introvert Whisperer How Introverts Can Survive and Enjoy Business Travel Some people thrive on business travel, while it can be a nightmare for others. Especially when it comes to introverts, a busy work schedule can be challenging enough without adding travel into the mix. However, being an introvert does not mean you canât do certain things and even enjoy them. It simply means that you need to approach them differently. For instance, airports and airplanes can be very crowded spaces, and even just the thought of driving somewhere unfamiliar is enough to get the heart racing. It is important that you plan for what you need to survive and even make your trip enjoyable. One of the keys is to communicate clearly to your employer how travel makes you feel and what you need to be successful. For air travel specifically, you might need to travel to your destination a day early to acclimate, or fly business class rather than coach to give yourself the space you need (you can even offer to pay for the upgrade yourself if need be). Plan activities for yourself on the trip, and try to get some time alone if possible. Besides communicating well, here are a few simple steps you can take to survive and enjoy business travel as an introvert. Get the Right Gear When it comes to flying, especially a long flight, having the right gear can make all of the difference. If you are traveling across the country or internationally, you will need to be prepared. Frequent business travelers carry a lot of the same items with them every single time, and there are some essentials you simply canât do without. A neck pillow: It may seem silly, but the pillows they have on the plane are nearly useless, besides the germs they might carry. Get your own travel neck pillow to keep yourself comfortable when you fall asleep. An empty water bottle: No, you canât bring a full one through security, but an empty one is fine, and many airports have water bottle filling stations at their water fountains. This a good way to stay hydrated, but not too hydrated (airplane bathrooms are often another introvert nightmare). Headphones: Yes, you will need to bring your own entertainment unless you want to pay for movies on the plane, or be stuck watching whatever they are showing. Corded ones are the best, as you donât need to recharge them (meaning you also donât need to carry an extra cord). Noise cancelling ones will work best to shut out the airplane world that can be so overwhelming. Backup power supply: This is just in case your laptop, tablet, or phone needs some extra juice while you are on the plane. Sleeping mask/sleep aids: Want to sleep on the flight? You may need a sleep aid, and even a sleeping mask to block out the ambient light, even on a night flight. You may also want a blanket in case you tend to get cold. The more gear you have of your own, the less reliant you are on the airline to provide you with the things you need, or even worse, having to buy them in the airport, which is always expensive. If you travel often for work, have a âgoâ bag where you keep all of your travel needs in one place. You can then just literally grab it and go. Get Your Mind in the Right Place One of the main obstacles as an introvert is getting your mind right when you are headed into a potentially stressful situation. Anxiety can cause physical symptoms, making your flight and travel even harder to endure. One way to do this is to put your extrovert face on. This is the one introverts use when they have to deal with customers or coworkers. Often your voice gets louder, you will say things you would not normally say, and youâll also seem more extraverted than you actually are. How to do this varies by person, but often a moment of meditation or even just some deep breathing will help. Also, consider things that relax you. You canât bring a candle, but you can bring small vials of essential oils, and scents like lavender can help relax you, while even supporting your mental well-being. Massage oils into your feet, temples, and your wrists to get it into your body, and rub some on your hands and inhale the aroma from time to time. This is a natural way to keep yourself mentally calm. Take Time for You Before and After This is perhaps the most important part: take some time alone before, after, and even during your trip if you can. Find an hour when little is going on or you have a break between meetings and take a nap, do some yoga, or even just go for a walk. Many hotels have gyms where you can work out, and they are usually not crowded during the day. Before you travel, take half a day and do something for yourself. Get a massage, spend some time alone reading, but try to charge your batteries for the social interactions you know are coming. When you get home, do the same thing. This may require scheduling your flights differently or modifying your work schedule. Do it. Itâs important. Business travel does not have to be a nightmare for introverts, and can even be enjoyable with the right planning, the right gear, and by taking some time for yourself.
